Apply conditional logic ("if, then" statements) to your registration forms to collect more specific information from attendees
Conditional logic is essentially an "if, then" statement.This can be applied to registration forms to collect more specific information from attendees.A common example is the location question: When registrants indicate that they live in the United States, a new dropdown appears, prompting them to select their state of residence.
This specificity allows hosts to qualify leads and inform their marketing strategies more efficiently.
A conditional custom registration field consists of two parts: theindependent fieldand thedependent field.
- Independent field: If we think of conditional logic as an "if, then" statement, the independent field is the "if." This field is displayed to everyone who opens your registration form.If registrants submit a certain answer, the dependent field will appear.
- Dependent field:This is the dropdown menu, text field, or check box that appears only to guests that submit a certain answer in the independent field.
So if we wanted to ask American registrants to tell us what state they live in, we'd make "Country" the independent field.Here's how it'll look for registrants.Then we'd trigger the dependent field, "State," to appear only when the registrant indicates that they live in America (the value).
How can I add conditional logic to my registration forms?
Create Your Independent Field
1.Log into your webinar and select theManage Webinartab.In the left-hand menu on this page, selectCustom Registration Fields.
This tab lists all of the registration forms that are currently active on your event's registration form.
To begin creating conditional custom registration fields, select the blueAdd Fieldbutton.
3.In the pop-up that appears, create your independent field (in this case, the country).ClickSaveto complete.
Create Your Dependent Field
4.Next, create your dependent field.This is the field that will display if the registrant submits a pre-defined answer in the independent field (e.g., the state).
Return to the custom registration form menu.ClickAdd Field.
5.In the pop-up that appears, enter the name of the dependent field (in this example, "State").Then from the list below, checkDependent Field.
6.Once you selectDependent Field, two prompts will appear below it.Here, you will set the "logic" of the dependent field (i.e., set the dependent field to display only when the qualifying answer has been submitted).
So if we want the State field to display only when a registrant has indicated that they are located in the United States, we'd do the following:
- SelectShow this field when.....A dropdown menu containing your active custom registration fields will appear.Select your desired independent field from this list (i.e., "Country").
- Underneathis equal to,choose the answer that will trigger the dependent field to appear (i.e., "USA).
If you formatted the independent field as a dropdown or checkbox display, all possible options will display in a dropdown menu.Choose your desired value from this list.
If you formatted the independent field as a free entry text box, type your desired value in the box provided.(Note: If your value is case-sensitive, we recommend using dropdowns or checkboxes for the independent field).
